Judie Haynes taught elementary ESL for 28 years and is the author and coauthor of a multitude of books for teachers of ELs, the most recent being “Teaching to Strengths: Supporting Students Living with Trauma, Violence and Chronic Stress“ with Debbie Zacarian and Lourdes Alvarez-Ortiz (2017).

She was a columnist for the TESOL publication “Essential Teacher” and is also co-founder and co-moderator of the Twitter Chat for teachers of English learners #ELLCHAT, and she currently writes articles in the TESOL Blog.

In this episode, we interview Judie in relation to her latest TESOL blog post, “Supporting ELs’ Social-Emotional Learning in a Virtual Classroom.” We chat ways to practice self-care and promote a deeper connection with students as we struggle across the globe to adjust to emergency remote teaching as the new normal.
